Electricity in Austria: How to Compare Providers Safely
For electricity, the trustworthy comparison is the official independent calculator — not a static price table that may be wrong for your postcode tomorrow.
Electricity prices vary too much by location, consumption and current product for a single static “winner” to be responsible. This page points you to the regulator’s live comparison and explains what to look for.
E-Control Tarifkalkulator
Austria's energy regulator says electricity and gas suppliers are required to enter their products into its tariff calculator. It compares offers using your postcode and annual consumption and shows product details and switching information.
Why we do not publish a fake “cheapest electricity provider” table
The cheapest electricity product depends on your postcode, annual use, discounts, price guarantees and current products. E-Control's calculator is more useful than a static table because suppliers are required to keep product information in that database.
Before switching or registering electricity
- Find your annual consumption from your last bill, or estimate based on household size if the calculator supports it.
- Enter the exact postcode because network charges and available products can differ.
- Separate one-off bonuses from the normal ongoing price.
- Check price guarantee, contract duration, notice period and whether the price is fixed or variable.
- Keep meter readings and handover records when moving.
Supplier vs network operator
Your electricity supplier sells the energy; your local network operator runs the grid connection. Switching supplier does not mean your physical electricity cable changes. E-Control also provides information for finding network operators.
How we verify comparison data
We use the provider's own product pages and public conditions for price and eligibility facts, and we date-stamp the comparison. Promotions can end without notice. Always confirm the final price, eligibility and contract before applying.
Provider logos identify the companies only and do not imply endorsement, partnership or sponsorship.
